‘Absolutely Free Sharing Market’ to be held at the Thurston County Fairgrounds

The third “Absolutely Free Sharing Market” will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 2, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at the Thurston County Fairgrounds.

This community event is half block party, half mutual aid, according to a news release from organizers.

There will be food, skill-sharing and a hall of donated items to share, from tools to clothes, all for free.

Donations of gently-used items will be accepted at the fairgrounds March 30 through April 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. There will also be a donation truck at the Civic Plaza in Lacey near Applebee’s on Sunday, March 29, from noon to 4 p.m.

Masks are required from 5 to 6 p.m. April 2 and 11 a.m. to noon April 4. General shopping will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. April 2 and 1 to 5 p.m. April 4. From noon to 1 p.m. April 4, sharing hours will be for foster families and those with disabilities.

The Absolutely Free Sharing Markets are organized by Evergreen Resistance, with help from dozens of community volunteers and hundreds of donors. While Evergreen Resistance is a progressive group, the markets are intentionally apolitical, and everyone is welcome, according to the news release.

“The goal of Absolutely Free Sharing Markets is to share anything you’re not using with your neighbors, and take home new-to-you stuff that you will use,” event organizers stated in an email to The Chronicle. “This is mutual aid, not charity — because everyone benefits when things aren’t wasted!”
