Adna boys, Rainier girls win 2B District 4 titles

One week after winning league titles, the Adna boys and Rainier girls track and field teams finished on top again in Centralia on Thursday, taking home district titles at the 2B District 4 Championships at Tiger Stadium.

The Adna boys won both the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay. Grayson Humphrey, Markus Miles, Kannen Kephart, and Carter Duncan ran the 4x100 in 43.69 seconds, while Duncan, Steven O’Dell, Miles, and Humphrey finished the 4x400 in 3:31.53.

Also picking up an individual district title for the Pirates was Kade Pearson, who posted a throw of 155 feet, four inches in the javelin, beating Onalaska’s Brodey Triana by just over two feet.

The Rainier girls dominated the long-distance events, winning the 400, 800, 1,600, and 3,200.

Jazzlyn Shumate finished first in the 400 at 1:01.56, Alexis Myers won the 800 in 2:30.45, and Komaire Robles won the 1,600 (5:35.65) and 3,200 (12:58.45).

Shumate also won the 300-hurdles in 49.05 seconds, Emma Mankowski won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 8-6, a full foot better than the runner-up.

In the boys running events, Morton/White Pass’ Mathew Parvin won the 100 in 11.04 seconds, Toledo’s Trevin Gale won in both the 200 (22.47 seconds) and 400 (50.31 seconds), and fellow Riverhawk Conner Hill won the 1,600 (4:40.02) and 3,200 (10:21.21).

Winlock’s Freddy Patching also won a district title, winning the 800 in 2:02.19, just three-hundredths of a second ahead of Adna’s O’Dell.



Napavine’s Kolden Mitchell won the 110-meter hurdles race in 17.49 seconds, a personal best, and Rainier’s Jacob Hanson won the 300 hurdles in 44.24 seconds.

In the field events, Onalaska’s Ethan Thayer won both the shot put (60-1.5) and discus (178-8), and fellow Logger Luke Barrick won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 13-6.

Parvin picked up a field victory as well in the long jump, leaping 21-0.75, and Toledo’s Adam Kruger won the triple jump at 42-0.5.

Elsewhere on the girls’ side, Winlock’s Victoria Sancho won the 100 in 12.72 seconds, a season-best mark, and Adna’s Megan Price won the 200 in 26.35 seconds, a personal best and a time that was just seven-hundredths of a second ahead of Sancho.

Adna’s Sophie Hagseth, Rhylee Beebe, Muse Jones, and Price won the 4x100 in 51.98 seconds, just .12 seconds ahead of Mossyrock’s Avery Teinhaara, Jalyn Kolb, Bailey Gross, and Leah Contreras, and the same Adna quartet won the 4x200 in 1:50.23.

Morton/White Pass’ Karah Fairhart finished on top in the shot put with a heave of 34-11.5, and Onalaska’s Emalia Jacoby won three district titles by winning the discus (129-5), long jump (16-9.5), and triple jump (33-9.25).

The 2B State Track and Field meet is set for next Thursday through Saturday, May 28-30, at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima.
