The City of Olympia is accepting applications for its 2026 Traffic Box Wrap project now through April 29.
As part of the project, community members are invited to submit their work to be considered for a public vote. At the end of the voting period the top ten images with the most votes are printed as vinyl canvases and installed on traffic boxes around town.
“Olympia’s Traffic Box Wrap project turns traffic boxes found on sidewalks (and) street corners into a collection of public art pieces. The wraps not only beautify our city but greatly reduce the amount of graffiti on the boxes and the maintenance hours required to clean them,” the City of Olympia said in a news release.
The project began in 2015 and there are currently 81 traffic box wraps on display throughout the city.
Artists of any age living within 30 miles of Olympia City Hall, located at 601 4th Ave East, Olympia, are invited to submit one image of their artwork for consideration.
Selected artists receive a $500 honorarium, recognition on the city website, and have their artwork displayed on a traffic box in the City of Olympia for 2 to 3 years, depending on the condition of the piece over time.
