W.F. West came out on top of a heavyweight clash on Tuesday at Fairway Lanes, taking down Rochester 2,137-1,986 to take sole possession of first place in the EvCo.

Rochester prevailed in the first game, winning 821-791, but the Bearcats responded by averaging 204 as a team and shooting a 1,020 scratch score to win the game by 225.

Going into the Baker games, the Bearcats won the first by a narrow 165-163 margin before Rochester took the second 207-161.

Rochester’s Natalie Southard had the high series for the night, posting a 398 for an average of 199.

W.F. West was led by freshman Sable Bunker, who averaged 186, and Allie Smitherman and Julianna Gonzalez both cleared the 180 mark with 182 and 181, respectively. Smitherman struggled in the first game, but bounced back with a 233 in Game 2.

According to Rochester coach Josh Smith and W.F. West coach Rich Bunker, both teams had a great time performing in front of a standing room only crowd, and the sportsmanship from both teams was exceptional.

W.F. West now sits atop the league at 5-0 in league play and 7-1 overall, but the Warriors remain just one game back at 4-1 in EvCo play.

Next up for the Bearcats is a trip to Elma to take on Aberdeen on Thursday, while Rochester will face Centralia at Fairway Lanes the same afternoon.
