Beavers held to second-lowest output in loss to Grizzlies

Just seven made field goals was not enough for the Tenino High School girls basketball team, even in a low-scoring affair with Hoquiam. The Grizzlies made more shots and pulled away with a 38-22 win on Friday night.

Tied at nine after one quarter, Tenino (5-15, 1-6 Evergreen), only mustered 13 combined points the rest of the way. Hoquiam’s lone quarter in double figures was the fourth. Kyla Watson paced the Beavers with eight points while Kylie Gonia added seven.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to do a better job of taking care of the ball and finishing around the rim,” Tenino head coach Kirsi Gofinch said.

Tenino will head to Rochester on Tuesday in the second Scatter Creek Showdown of the season. If the Beavers win, they will claim their spot in the Class 1A District 4 tournament for the second year in a row.
