The River Ridge girls soccer team raced out to a two-goal lead against Black Hills at Nisqually Middle School on Tuesday, but the Wolves battled back and earned a 2-2 draw.

Kinsley Phillips opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, scoring off an assist from Emily Schelling, and she scored a second in the 20th minute to put the Hawks up 2-0.

Cassidy O’Reilly got one back for the Wolves right before halftime, and Ella McNair scored the tying goal in the 50th minute.

Black Hills continued to push for a winner, but the River Ridge defense held and secured the draw.

“I was proud of the girls for keeping up the intensity even when trailing,” Black Hills coach Jordan Owen said. “The momentum really swung our way the second half, we just couldn’t knock in another one to win it.”

Both teams will hit the road on Thursday. Black Hills (1-0-1) will head to Capital, while River Ridge (1-0-1) will head to Shelton.
