The Black Hills volleyball team forced a game-deciding fifth set in Shelton on Tuesday, but the Wolves dropped the final set and lost their EvCo opener 21-25, 25-28, 23-25, 25-15, 11-15.

“It was a great match, but unfortunately, we made too many errors behind the service line, and that made it difficult to maintain our momentum,” Black Hills coach Kendra Dunn said. “We fought hard from start to finish, and while this one didn’t fall our way, there is a lot we can take from it and continue to build on.”

Piper Manning was “outstanding” in the back row for the Wolves throughout the night, tallying 51 digs and keeping a lot of plays alive.

Lilly Worthen had a great night on offense, both setting up and executing the attack. She finished with 21 kills and 19 digs, while Jaya Tummala was “relentless at the net.”

“(Tummala) did a great job of getting touches and making things difficult for their hitters,” Dunn said.

Black Hills (6-2, 0-1 2A EvCo) has now lost two straight after starting the season 6-0. The Wolves will look to get back in the win column on Thursday at home against Aberdeen.
