Of the 19 runs given up by the Warriors, only seven were earned due to seven errors by their defense in a 19-7 non-league defeat to the Rams at home on Friday afternoon.
It’s the eighth straight setback for Rochester (1-9) but a step in the right direction as the offensive output was the highest since its 18-8 victory over La Center. A four-run bottom of the third started with the first three reaching, then a two-run single by Josie Nygard.
An RBI walk from Ayla LeBaron and two more scored on a North Thurston error. Nygard finished with two hits and two runs scored while Charlie Culp crossed home twice and drew two walks.
The Rams scored at least four runs in four of the five frames. Syriahs Trolson struck out four in the circle and added three hits at the plate. Paige Guyer roped two doubles and Lucia Green drove in a team-best four runs.
“I told the girls this week was ‘Challenge Week.’ We have high expectations for this team, and they absolutely delivered as individuals and as a team,” North Thurston head coach Sam Harding said. “The girls have found the consistency and confidence that we knew they had, and they showed it. I couldn’t be more proud of them all from the top to the bottom of the lineup.”
Rochester returns to 1A Evergreen League play on Tuesday against Hoquiam.
