The Timberline girls soccer team overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit against rival North Thurston, scoring three second-half goals to win 4-2 on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Sophomore Ayanna Turner opened the Blazers’ scoring with a goal in the 40th minute off an assist from Hannah Bustillo Steik. Timberline caught fire on offense in the second half, with freshman defender Logan Graham tying the game at 2-2 in the 55th minute as senior Abigail Green assisted her.

Bustillo Steik provided the go-ahead goal five minutes later in the 60th minute from Hannah Jackson’s pass, scooting past the goalkeeper to find the back of the net. Bustillo Steik added an insurance goal on a header from Green’s corner kick in the 78th minute.

Blazers goalkeeper Lola Egger racked up 14 saves and made a key stop in the second half. Timberline recorded 13 shots, including six on goal.

“North Thurston and Timberline have always been a rivalry. The girls did not give up,” Timberline head coach Chris Crowe said. “Lola coming off her line to stop the breakaway from Londyn McKenzie to prevent North Thurston getting a third goal to tie the game just gave the girls more motivation to continue to fight and play for the win.”

Timberline (4-5-2, 3-1-2 Puget Sound League) will host Lakes on Tuesday, Oct. 13, while North Thurston (3-5-2, 1-4-1 PSL) will visit Mount Tahoma that night.
