The Capital boys tennis team knocked off Peninsula 4-1 in its first match of the season Thursday afternoon in Pierce County.
Capital swept all three doubles matches and split the singles matches.
Eli Horton lost his first set in second singles 1-6 before finding his shot in the second set to take the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4.
The Cougars’ second doubles team was also down 1-5 in the first set and fought back to win both sets in tiebreakers.
“We have a lot of new kids on varsity this season. They played with a lot of confidence for being such a new team and it being their first match of the season,” Capital head coach Tom Alongi said. “We have a solid group of guys who love the sport and are eager to improve. It’s going to be a fun season.”
Capital will travel to Silverdale to square off with Central Kitsap Tuesday afternoon.
