The Capital girls swim team ran into a strong opponent in Peninsula Tuesday, as the Seahawks prevailed 149-30.
A Peninsula athlete or relay team won all 12 events. Amanda Tang was the Cougars’ top scorer as she took third in 1-meter diving with a score of 93.60 and fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:52.09. She, along with Masha Olson, Julia Oestreich and Tessa Nielsen, helped the 400-meter freestyle relay team finish third with a time of 5:39.64, qualifying for the district meet in the process. The Cougars’ 200-meter medley relay team of Tang, Olson, Brooke Machut and Nielsen took fourth at 2:52.37.
Nielsen finished fourth in the 200-meter individual medley at 3:42.52, and she qualified for the Puget Sound League meet in the 100-meter butterfly with a fourth-place time of 1:36.83.
“We are a team of 15 with just five swimmers returning. The majority of our team is new and primarily freshmen, and they did an awesome job in their first swim meet,” Capital head coach Patti Peterson said.
Capital will visit Central Kitsap in Silverdale on Thursday.
