The Capital boys soccer team, champion of the Puget Sound League Nisqually Division, lost to Narrows Division champion Silas 4-1 Saturday night at Peninsula High School in the PSL title match.
Capital scored first in the sixth minute, with Tanner Fricke finding the back of the net thanks to a pass from Zade Watson. But Silas netted two goals in the first half and two more in the second half. Three of the Rams’ four goals were off set pieces.
“Silas did a great job of exploiting a weak spot repeatedly,” Capital head coach Jeremy Richtmyre said. “They did the same thing the first time we played them. I’m proud of the work the boys put in. They fought for everything throughout, and they were fighting until the final whistle. We have several chances to cut the lead. We just couldn’t find the back of the net.”
Next up for Capital (13-3-2) is the District 3 3A Tournament, which begins with the first round May 9. If the Cougars can win two games at districts, they’ll head to the state tournament for the first time since 2016.
“The most important thing is that we learn and we clean it up at practice,” Richtmyre said.
