The Capital baseball team has responded to an 0-4 start to the season by winning three of its last four.

The Cougars romped Lakes 13-3 at home in five innings Monday afternoon despite only recording three hits. Capital scored at least one run in all five innings.

Lakes struck first on a first-inning bases-loaded walk before Max Hanson’s sacrifice fly tied it in the bottom half of the first for Capital. The Lancers regained the lead with a two-out knock in the second, and the Cougars scored three in the second without needing a hit. Capital used four walks, two hit batters and a sacrifice to pull in front 4-2.

The Cougars tallied two more in the third off an error, and after Lakes pitched up a run in the fourth, Capital scored another pair of runs thanks to more walks and sacrifices. In the fifth, the Cougars blew the game open with a five-run frame, highlighted by RBI doubles from Brooks Barker and Hanson.

Lane Nixon pitched 3.2 innings for Capital, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out five.

Next up for Capital (3-5, 3-3 Puget Sound League) is a rematch with Lakes (1-6, 1-5 Puget Sound League) in Lakewood Tuesday afternoon.
