Capital mashed at home by Central Kitsap

It was the battle of the Cougars at Stevens Field Monday, as the Central Kitsap Cougars used a 14-run fourth inning to pulverize the Capital Cougars 30-7.

Central Kitsap and Capital went back and forth in the first two innings. After Central Kitsap used seven hits to score six runs in the first inning, Capital answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single by Lexie Dura and an RBI groundout by Mia Koong to slice the lead in half.

Capital had an opportunity to dig deeper into the deficit in the second as Davanee Weide and Lola McKeone singled with one out, but they were both stranded on the base paths.

Central Kitsap ripped off another six hits in the third and was helped by a multitude of defensive errors by Capital to score another five runs. Adalyn Flaugher hit a two-run bomb to center field, and Savvy Paulson scored on her own single due to poor defensive play by Capital.

Down 11-3, Capital continued to fight. Natasha Drinkall drove in a run with a single, and Weide and McKeone came up clutch with RBIs of their own to make it 11-7 through three.

But Central Kitsap rained down on Capital in the fourth, rattling off 11 hits, including a two-run homer by Elle Bosh and a bases-clearing double by Scarlett Mabe, to put 14 more runs on the scoreboard. Five more runs in the fifth put Central Kitsap at a season-high 30 runs.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Capital (1-9, 1-7 Puget Sound League), which will visit Peninsula (11-2, 8-1 PSL) on Wednesday.
