The Capital softball team ran into a buzzsaw in Peninsula and freshman Abby Hoyt, who hit two home runs and drove in seven runs as the Seahawks shut out the Cougars 21-0 at Stevens Field Monday.

Peninsula collected eight runs in each of the first two innings against Capital starter Lexie Dura, taking advantage of seven errors in that span by the Cougars. The Seahawks piled three more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. Hoyt hit a two-run bomb in the first inning and a two-run double in the first inning, and she added a three-run shot in the second inning.

Capital’s lone hit came from Dura in the first, but the Seahawks pitching tandem of Hoyt and Claire Smith retired the final seven batters.

Capital (0-3, 0-3 Puget Sound League) will visit Timberline (2-1, 2-0 Puget Sound League) on Wednesday.
