The Centralia volleyball team got back in the win column on Thursday, sweeping Rochester 26-24, 25-20, 25-22.
Centralia coach Marti Smith said that without two starters, it took a little for the Tigers to settle in, especially since they shifted to a 5-1.
Smith gave kudos to both Ava Horst, who became the main setter, and Alena Brenner, who moved into the back row without any prep time.
“(Brenner) did some really nice things when it was needed, and (Horst) did a really nice job having to play that role,” Smith said. “The girls did a nice job responding, and that was really nice to see. Whether up or down or coming out of a timeout, we’d get back to business … A really great team effort.”
Horst finished with 16 assists and 15 digs, and Eliyah Rooklidge tallied 21 digs and three aces while going 12 for 14 from the service line. Kendyl Guenther added 11 kills, nine digs, and was perfect on nine service attempts, and Megan Wickert delivered six aces while missing just two of her 14 attempts from the line.
Melissa Baine added seven kills and two blocks, and Jersey Moyer finished with six kills and two blocks of her own.
Centralia (2-1) will host Montesano on Tuesday.
