Chandler-Trent shines as Olympia bounces back with shutout of Curtis

The Olympia softball team, fresh off a heartbreaking 17-16 loss to Emerald Ridge Monday, lowered its blood pressure a bit, sailing to a 10-0 victory over Curtis in five innings Tuesday.

Pitcher Sydnee Chandler-Trent thrived both in the circle and at the plate for the Bears. She pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three singles and striking out a pair. She also collected two hits and three runs batted in.

“Sydnee had a great day in the circle. She had really good command of her pitches and kept the batters off balance all game,” Olympia head coach Drew Wellner said. “Another strong day at the plate from the girls, putting the ball in play and putting pressure on the defense.”

Chandler-Trent and Abby Crawford picked up RBIs in the first inning to put Olympia on the board, and Chandler-Trent’s second RBI came on a sacrifice in the third. The Bears pulled away in the fourth with six runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Crawford and a single by Chandler-Trent that eventually scored three runs thanks to an error by the Vikings.

Sam Graham scored the run-rule-inducing run in the bottom of the fifth, coming around to score on a pair of wild pitches after a double earlier in the inning.

Olympia (4-7, 4-4 South Puget Sound League) enters spring break with a .500 winning percentage in league play with seven games to go. The Bears head to Puyallup April 14 to face Rogers.
