City of Olympia accepting public comment on multi-family housing development through June 15

The City of Olympia is accepting public comment through June 15 on a proposal to build 34 new multifamily units on Palomino Drive.

The Palomino Multifamily Project proposes building multifamily units spread between six two- and three-story residential buildings at 1525 Palomino Drive Southeast.

The project will provide 22 new parking spaces plus eight to 14 garage parking spaces.

The project will also provide bicycle parking and lush landscaping.

The City of Olympia is currently in the process of confirming that the project meets the requirements of the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA). At this point, the city expects to issue a Determination of Non-significance (DNS) for this project, an official decision meaning that the project is unlikely to have any significant adverse environmental impacts.

Comments on the proposed project and its probable environmental impacts can be submitted up through June 15.

“This may be your only opportunity to comment on the environmental impacts of the proposed project,” the city said in a news release.

Comments can be submitted to the lead planner assigned to the project, Jackson Ewing, at jewing@ci.olympia.wa.us.

The environmental review and anticipated SEPA threshold determination are based upon the environmental checklist and related information on file with the City. Those documents are available upon request.

The project is being proposed by RJ Development, which submitted its project application on April 15.

Project documents can be found online in the Olympia Permit Portal, olympiawa.gov/permitportal, under project number 26-1865.
