City of Olympia temporarily removes Pride and transgender flag crosswalks to make way for plastic refresh

On March 26, a City of Olympia contractor temporarily removed the crosswalk markings at Legion Way and Columbia Street, as well as Washington Street and 5th Avenue.

This work is the first step in the project to refresh the Pride and transgender flag crosswalks at these intersections, the City of Olympia said in a news release.

In order to replace the crosswalk markings,  the city said, the old worn markings needed to be removed entirely.

New bright plastic markings in the same Pride and transgender flag colors will be installed at the intersections when weather allows, before the end of May and ahead of Pride celebrations in June.

Traffic operations at both intersections remain unchanged.

Signals for drivers and pedestrians continue to function normally and regulate movement through the area, a news release from the City of Olympia stated.
