It was a slow start for the Olympia Bears, but they kicked it into ignition in the second quarter en route to a 41-16 throttling of Stadium at the Stadium Bowl Friday night.
Olympia fell behind 7-0 after one and 10-0 early in the second quarter before the Bears ripped off 20 unanswered points to finish the first half. Ibrahima Diallo, who scored four touchdowns against Capital last week, found the end zone for the Bears first, followed by a pair of David Ukwu touchdowns to give Oly a 20-10 halftime lead.
“It was a little slow start. The boys came together and started bouncing back,” Olympia head coach Cary Nagel. “We’re all learning how to play football a certain way. We’ll get better and better as the season goes on.”
The Bears kept rolling in the second half, as Diallo scored from 14 yards out and Ukwu tallied his third rushing score of the game in the third quarter. For the second Friday night in a row, Elijah Butler took a fumble recovery to the house.
Diallo finished with 219 rushing yards and two scores, while Ukwu rushed for 36 yards on six carries, three of which were touchdowns. Olympia totaled 308 rushing yards.
“The misdirection was clicking. Our offense was rolling,” Nagel said. “Diallo was our bellcow again. He carried us offensively.”
Olympia (2-0) will host Bellarmine next Friday at Ingersoll Stadium.
