A driver was rescued from a ravine in Thurston County on Christmas Day after their vehicle left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, The Griffin Fire Department and Medic One responded to the incident, located off of U.S. Highway 101 Southbound near Shaker Church Road.

While deputies and medics were 20 feet down into a ravine providing medical attention, a large tree fell and nearly landed on a deputy, according to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders.

The driver was evaluated and was determined to not be impaired, and was subsequently transported to the hospital in stable condition, Sanders said in a social media post.
