Capital’s Lexie Dura mashed her second home run of the season, but the Cougars fell 15-4 to Steilacoom in five innings in a non-league contest in Pierce County Friday afternoon.
Dura’s home run came in the first inning on a two-run shot to center field. Steilacoom quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first with a walk, an RBI double and then a two-run home run. The Sentinels added a fourth run in the first inning before erupting for nine runs in the third inning to push their lead to 13-2. Capital surrendered seven errors in the third inning alone.
Ashlynn O’Hara and Devyn Zipperer picked up RBIs in the fifth inning.
The schedule doesn’t get easier for Capital (1-8, 1-6 Puget Sound League), as the Cougars will host Central Kitsap (8-2, 7-1 Puget Sound League) Monday, April 20 at Stevens Field.
