Early goal enough to topple River Ridge in loss to Lakes

The River Ridge girls soccer team held Lakes scoreless for the final 69 minutes of the match Thursday, Oct. 1, but the Lancers’ 11th-minute goal was enough to win on the road 1-0.

Lakes senior midfielder Randellah Tanuvasa encountered River Ridge goalkeeper Madilyn Prado 10 yards away from the goal, and Tanuvasa kicked it past Prado and into the net.

One of River Ridge’s best chances came in the 23rd minute on a shot off a corner kick, and an Emily Schelling free kick from 15 yards out clanked off the top of the crossbar in the 25th minute. Five minutes later, River Ridge nearly scored on a long Morgan Lokos pass that slipped through the Lakes keeper’s hands before she collected it.

Prado also made a clutch save in the final two minutes of the first half in a one-on-one situation.

Offensive chances were at a premium in the second half, but Lokos fired a good look in the 61st minute but missed wide left.

In the 66th minute, a free kick nearly slipped past Prado with two potential rebounders in her face, but she collected the loose ball. A Hawks free kick was saved in the 75th minute, and Prado saved a 15-yard shot in the final two minutes.

Lokos was hit 10 yards away from the goal and brought to the turf in the final minute, but no foul was called as fans audibly disagreed with the no-call. Seconds later, a corner kick ricocheted near the box, and a Hawks header toward the goal was saved as the final whistle blew.

River Ridge (3-2-4, 1-2-1 Puget Sound League) will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 6 against Bellarmine (5-0-1, 4-0-0 PSL).
