SALEM, Ore. — A career night from senior Tony Frohlich-Fair powered The Evergreen State College men’s basketball team to a dramatic 104-96 overtime victory against Corban University on Saturday, Jan. 3, in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Frohlich-Fair poured in a career-high 37 points as Evergreen snapped into the win column with its first conference victory of the season, improving to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the CCC. Corban slipped to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with the teams deadlocked 46-46 at halftime and again tied 89-89 at the end of regulation. Evergreen seized control in the extra session, outscoring Corban 15-7 over five minutes to secure the win. The 104 points marked Evergreen’s first 100-point outing in a CCC game since a 107-97 win over Concordia (Ore.) on Jan. 15, 2010.
Frohlich-Fair delivered one of the most complete performances in program history, shooting 15 of 27 from the floor and finishing with 12 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals to go along with his scoring. His 37 points tied him for 10th on Evergreen’s all-time single-game scoring list, and he is now averaging 22.9 points per game this season.
Senior guard Bradley Graham added 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line, including four key makes in overtime. Graham also chipped in four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Gabriel Wigginton and Jacob Laff each scored 12 points, with Laff knocking down four 3-pointers. Kohrey Bridges finished with nine points and five rebounds.
Frohlich-Fair scored six of Evergreen’s final nine points in regulation, including a putback layup with 14 seconds left that briefly gave Evergreen the lead.
Corban was led by T.J. Zimmerman, who scored 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting while adding six rebounds and six assists. Benett Bos scored 18 points, including six 3-pointers, and Oreon Courtney recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Evergreen shot an efficient 53.6% from the field and held a 41-37 rebounding edge, while Corban struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 8 of 18 attempts.
The Geoducks will look to build on the momentum Tuesday, Jan. 6, when they travel to Kirkland to face Northwest University in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
