The Evergreen State College men’s soccer team faced NCAA Division III opponent Linfield Tuesday afternoon and escaped unscathed in a 0-0 tie.
The Geoducks are now 0-0-2 this season.
Linfield narrowly outshot Evergreen 16-15, including 7-5 in shots on goal. Junior midfielder Luca Viana, who scored Evergreen’s lone goal in its season opener against Ottawa University Arizona last week, missed a shot to the right of the goal in the game’s final seconds Tuesday.
His shot was one of three Geoducks missed in the final 10 minutes, including a miss by Viana in the 82nd minute wide left and a wide-right miss by Noah Blake.
Blake led all players with six total shots, including three on target. Senior goalkeeper Tom Cole, who started in net, registered six saves in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Rico Ewell stepped in after halftime and recorded one save.
After Linfield held an 11-9 advantage in total shots in the first half, the Geoducks outshot the Wildcats 6-5 in the second half.
Evergreen will face Pacific University Sunday, Sept. 6 in a non-conference game at Geoduck Pitch at 5 p.m.
