Evergreen volleyball drops 8th straight, swept by Northwest

The Evergreen State College volleyball team was swept by Northwest University in Kirkland Wednesday night, dropping the Geoducks to 0-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Evergreen held an early 8-6 lead in the first set until Northwest erupted for a 10-1 run and ultimately finished the frame on a 19-5 run to win 25-13.

Northwest once again pulled away from the Geoducks in set two on another 9-2 spurt in a 25-14 victory. Sophia Scroggins recorded four kills in the second set.

The Eagles took a 14-9 lead in the third set, and Evergreen’s 5-0 run tied the score. But at a crossroads at 19-19, Northwest finished the set by scoring six of the next seven points to win 25-20.

Scroggins finished with eight kills, 10 digs, one block and one ace. Annalise Orlowski and Bright Brubaker each recorded three kills and three blocks, while Jayden Vaimaona and Riley Mangan each had eight assists.

Evergreen (1-10, 0-7 CCC) will host Warner Pacific Saturday, Sept. 26 in its last home game until Oct. 16.
