SALEM, Ore. — Early and sustained runs by No. 18-ranked Corban University proved too much for The Evergreen State College women’s basketball team, as the Warriors pulled away for a 95-51 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory on Saturday, Jan. 3, at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Corban jumped out to a commanding start, outscoring Evergreen 28-9 in the first quarter and 25-9 in the third to build a cushion it never relinquished. The Warriors also held advantages of 18-14 in the second quarter and 25-19 in the fourth to improve to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in CCC play. Evergreen slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in conference action.

Senior guard Jenna Glenzel paced the Geoducks with a standout individual performance, tying her career-high with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting while going a perfect 9-for-9 at the free-throw line. Glenzel also recorded seven steals, tying for sixth on Evergreen’s single-game list, and added four rebounds and a blocked shot.

Senior forward/center Bayleigh Harder added 11 points and turned in a strong defensive effort with seven blocked shots. The total tied her for second on the program’s single-game list, matching Jalyn Sackrider’s mark set earlier this season against Northwest University. Sahara Soufi chipped in six points and two steals for Evergreen.

Corban was led by Jersey Huerta, who scored 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added seven assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Warriors opened the game with the first 13 points before Evergreen briefly answered with a pair of Harder layups. Corban responded with a decisive 15-5 run to close the first quarter. A late Glenzel 3-pointer pulled Evergreen within 37-23 late in the second quarter, but Corban closed the half on a 9-0 surge and then opened the third with a 19-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach.

Evergreen will look to regroup Tuesday, Jan. 6, when it travels to Kirkland to face Northwest University in conference play. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
