Evergreen women fall to Northwest

Freshman guard Habiba Adam recorded 11 points and seven rebounds to lead The Evergreen State College on Tuesday night, but Northwest University pulled away in the second half for an 81-51 Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball victory at the Costantino Recreation Center.

Senior Jenna Glenzel added nine points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Geoducks.

Northwest improved to 9-18 overall and 5-14 in conference play. Evergreen dropped to 1-21 on the season and 1-18 in the CCC.

Kaleah Medeiros paced the Eagles with a game-high 28 points, shooting 12 of 17 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range. She also collected six rebounds. 

Evergreen received eight points apiece from Sahara Soufi, Bayleigh Harder and Melissa Blanke. Harder grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots. Soufi and Blanke each had four boards. Glenzel posted a game-high six defensive rebounds and added two blocks, while Adam led all players with six offensive rebounds. Jesselle Victo Castillo dished out five assists.



The Geoducks opened the scoring on two free throws by Victo Castillo, but Northwest answered with a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers from Medeiros and Jersey McGehee. Evergreen trimmed the deficit to 10-6 midway through the first quarter and later closed the gap to 13-8 by the end of the period.

In the second quarter, Evergreen pulled within 21-19 after a 3-pointer by Adam and a jumper from Soufi. However, the Eagles responded with an 8-0 spurt to extend their lead to 29-19. The Geoducks closed the half strong, scoring the final five points — all at the free-throw line — to cut the deficit to 29-24 at intermission.

Northwest seized control in the third quarter, opening the half with a 13-2 run that featured three 3-pointers. Evergreen briefly narrowed the margin to 42-32 on a layup by Glenzel, but the Eagles finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 53-32 advantage. Northwest shot 6 of 10 from beyond the arc in the third and outscored Evergreen 28-19 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

For the game, Northwest shot 41.9% from the field (31 of 72), including 14 of 35 from 3-point range. The Eagles also held a 51-45 edge on the boards. Evergreen struggled from the floor, shooting 22.4% (15 of 67) and 3 of 23 from long distance, while converting 18 of 26 free throws.

The Geoducks will close out the 2025-26 season Thursday at Warner Pacific University. Tipoff in Portland is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
