Five-run first enough as Mountaineers top Loggers

A five-run opening frame was all that Rainier needed on Friday, as the Mountaineers picked up a road league win by topping Onalaska 5-2.

Mia Naval and Layla Hill opened the game with back-to-back singles, and Elaina Henry brought home the first run with an RBI double.

Hill scored on a wild pitch, Gracie Lantz hit an RBI single later in the inning, and Gracie Green and Saylor Briscoe brought in runs four and five with back-to-back RBI groundouts.

The Loggers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Braelyn Babb, but they didn’t get another run across until Chloe Haag drove in a run with a double in the sixth.

Henry finished with two hits, both doubles, and her RBI, and she also allowed just six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five in a complete-game on the mound.

Hill and Lantz also finished with two hits apiece and they both scored a run.

Babb pitched the first three innings, and Haag pitched four shutout innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just three hits.

Rainier (5-7, 2-2 C2BL) will host Mossyrock on Monday, while Onalaska (7-5, 2-3 C2BL) will host Tenino for a non-league matchup on Tuesday.
