Saint Martin’s University announced Wednesday the hiring of Jonathan McMillan as assistant director of recreation, bringing extensive experience in college administration, student engagement, and athletic program leadership to the role.

McMillan, a Pe Ell graduate, joins Saint Martin’s with more than eight years of experience in higher education and student-centered program management. Most recently, he served in outreach and student support roles at South Puget Sound Community College while also operating Sole and Style, a successful small business at Capital Mall in Olympia.

Prior to that, McMillan spent three years as the assistant athletic director at Centralia College, where he oversaw athletic operations, budget management, student athlete support initiatives, departmental communications and student engagement. He also served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at CC for a decade.

“We are excited to welcome Jonathan to Saint Martin’s University as our new assistant director of recreation,” Director of Athletics Theresa Hanson said in a release. “His diverse background in both athletics and business has prepared him well for this role, and we are confident his leadership will help enhance the recreation experience and create meaningful opportunities for our students to connect, engage and thrive.”

In addition to his athletic administration experience, McMillan served as an Upward Bound Specialist through the TRIO program at Centralia College, helping guide and support students in achieving their academic goals. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for strong leadership, operational excellence, and student advocacy, according to the release from Saint Martin’s.

McMillan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Centralia College, graduating with honors and earning recognition on the President's List.

As assistant director of recreation, McMillan will oversee recreational programming, student engagement initiatives, facility operations and wellness opportunities designed to enhance the student experience at Saint Martin’s University.

“I am honored and grateful to step into the role of assistant director of recreation at Saint Martin’s University,” McMillan said in a release. “I want to sincerely thank Theresa Hanson and David Bocook for their support and belief in me throughout this process. I am excited for the opportunity to contribute and grow within the incredible culture here at Saint Martin’s, and I look forward to serving our students and campus community in meaningful ways.”
