The Northwest Christian baseball team has not allowed a hit for the past 11 innings, as the Wolverines secured their second consecutive no-hitter Tuesday in a 12-0 rout of Evergreen Lutheran.
Sophomore ace Marshall Guyer was untouchable on the bump, tossing six hitless innings and striking out 14 Eagles and walking just two.
“Marshall pitched a whale of a game. His fastball was working well, and he just got better as the game went on,” Northwest Christian head coach Jordan Potis said. “He managed to stay efficient despite striking out 14.”
Offense didn’t come quickly for Northwest Christian. With the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the second inning, the Eagles retired the next three batters to escape the inning. In the third, Guyer opened the scoring with an RBI single, and a Parker Cox groundball forced an error and scored two more runs in the fourth.
The Wolverines opened the floodgates in the sixth inning with two outs. Evergreen Lutheran had a chance to end the frame with the bases loaded, but a passed ball on a third strike scored a run and kept the inning alive, allowing the Wolverines to score nine runs in the sixth. Jadon Dillingham drove in two with an RBI single, and Cox helped two more runners score with a single of his own.
“The bats still need some work. They held us pretty well in check the first four innings, but I’m confident they’ll get going,” Potis said.
A rematch with Evergreen Lutheran is next for Northwest Christian (3-0, 1-0 Sea-Tac) Thursday at the Regional Athletic Complex.
