Hannah Jackson put the Timberline girls soccer team in front of Capital with a goal in the 51st minute as the Blazers prevailed 2-1 in Olympia Thursday night.

Jackson was involved with both of Timberline’s goals. She assisted Hannah Bustillo Steik in the 23rd minute, and her goal, assisted by Abigail Green, broke a 1-1 tie and served as the game-winner.

“The girls did not give up. Despite the weather and it being an away game, we were able to get the winning goal,” Timberline head coach Christopher Crowe said. “Fantastic play from all the girls on the field today.”

Blazers goalkeeper Lola Egger recorded six saves, including a clutch one in a one-on-one situation against Capital’s Pippin Crump late in the second half. Timberline centerback Melia Mareko also had a crucial sliding save in the second half.

Capital’s goal was scored by freshman Isla Swardz in the 38th minute, who has scored four goals in her last two games. Swardz took the ball from midfield and raced past the entire back line for the goal.

“She’s an athlete that is very coachable and has this internal passion for the game. I’ve had a wave of incredible athletes go through the program,” Capital head coach Adriana Montes said. “She’s got that fire in her, and the players around her feed off of that. When she steps on the field, she definitely makes her name known with her opponent. She lets them know it’s going to be a challenge to stop her.”

Timberline (3-4, 2-0 Puget Sound League) will visit River Ridge (3-1-3, 1-1-0 PSL) Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Nisqually Middle School, while Capital (4-3, 1-1 PSL) will head north to face Mount Tahoma (1-3, 0-2 PSL) that night.
