Homes First, a Thurston County nonprofit dedicated to providing safe, healthy, and affordable rental housing, has appointed former United Way of Thurston County Executive Director Chris Wells as its interim CEO.
Wells’ appointment goes into effect immediately as former Homes First CEO Trudy Soucoup ends her tenure with the nonprofit.
“The board expressed appreciation for Soucoup’s time with the organization and wished her well in her future endeavors,” Homes First said in a news release.
Danielle Bryant, Homes First Board Chair, emphasized that the Board has complete confidence in Wells's ability to lead the nonprofit.
"The Board is incredibly pleased to welcome Chris Wells into the role of Interim CEO. Chris brings the exact leadership, vision, and deep community alignment needed to ensure stability and growth. We have absolute confidence in her ability to advance our mission alongside our dedicated staff," said Bryant.
Wells brings extensive nonprofit leadership experience to Homes First, having served as executive director of United Way of Thurston County from 2017 to 2026.
United Way of Thurston County closed its doors in March after 90 years.
Wells will work closely with the board and the internal team to ensure that all daily operations, property management, and tenant care continues without interruption, Homes First said in a news release.
Since 1990, Homes First has created stable, permanent rental housing for low-income individuals and families across Thurston and Mason counties.
“The organization remains fully focused on its core mission to deliver affordable housing and dignified property management,” Homes First said in a news release.
