The Rainier community gathered in front of Rainier High School Friday night to mourn 17-year-old RHS senior Deven Borgen, who, along with his 16-year-old brother Alexander, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Lacey on Nov. 14.
Deven's grandparents, Kathy and Ken Borgen, spoke at the candlelight vigil and expressed their gratitude for the Rainier community's support during the family's difficult time. RHS students, parents, teachers and law enforcement, including Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders and Rainier High School student resource officer Deputy Andrew Hansen, were in attendance.
The deputy who arrived on scene and attempted life-saving medical care for the Borgen brothers attended the vigil and mourned with the family, according to Sanders in a social media post Friday night.

Attendees had the opportunity to share their favorite memories with Deven in writing or write to the Borgen family after the candle lighting.
Two suspects — Trequanne T. Wilson-Mason, 20, of Lacey, and Jaden H. Johns, 20, of Olympia, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and drive-by shooting following last week's murders.
