After a two-year hiatus, the Artesians and FC Olympia announced the return of indoor soccer to the Olympia community with new adult and youth leagues, as well as a September fundraising tournament.
With the indoor soccer announcement also comes the return of Artesian Arena soccer and tryouts at the new indoor soccer venue off Center Street in Olympia.
Registration is now open for indoor soccer programs beginning Sept. 21 including co-ed adult leagues, women’s and men’s divisions, as well as youth indoor soccer programs.
Oly Arena is the new coined logo for the FC Olympia indoor venue and will be home for soccer players of all ages and experience levels. A place where youth players can develop their game, adults can compete and stay active, and the local soccer community can come together year-round.
Additional leagues, programs, schedules and facility information will be announced as the indoor center continues to wrap installation processes.
Before league play begins, FC Olympia and the Artesians will host a special fundraiser tournament Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 with Austin Kelley Cup Awards for each division. The weekend will feature opportunities for high school players, adults and youth players to get on the field and help kick off a new chapter for indoor soccer in Olympia.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will help cover the large costs of new turf installation and new indoor center nets. Community members, players, families and local soccer supporters are encouraged to participate and help build a sustainable home for indoor soccer in Olympia.
Players interested in competing for the Artesians across Washington state in the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) will have the opportunity to try out in September and October.
Artesian men’s team tryouts will be held Sept. 22 and Sept. 24, while women’s team tryouts will be held Oct. 29 and Oct. 31.
The tryouts mark another milestone in bringing the Artesian Arena teams back and building toward the club’s next chapter. The club was originally founded as an indoor club in 2014 and blossomed into an outdoor EPLWA club before signing with the United Soccer League.
“I remember my first year with the Artesians arena team in 2016 and just how excited I was to be a part of indoor soccer and this community,” Ryan Perkins, club president, said in a news release. “This new indoor facility will be a place where kids and adults throughout our community will come together, stay active and grow to love indoor soccer. More importantly, it gives us another opportunity to grow local soccer programs and give people something to be excited about each fall, winter and spring where rain and darkness push many indoors. This place is heated, [has] ample parking and in town.”
FC Olympia and the Artesians are asking the South Sound soccer community to help make this vision possible via contributions to the new turf installation fundraiser, which will directly support the new artificial grass and indoor soccer nets.
