A simple two-run single by Maddie Knight was only the start of a Tuesday to remember, leading the EvCo’s No. 4 seeded Wolves to a dominant 15-1, five-inning thrashing of R.A. Long in a Class 2A District 4 pigtail game in Longview.
The first baseman finished 3-for-4 with seven RBIs and a pair of home runs – a solo shot in the second and a grand slam on the first pitch she saw in the third – to give Black Hills (5-15) its third straight win.
Six runs crossed home in the top of the first that began with two straight walks and concluded with wild pitches by R.A. Long to keep the Wolves in front. They exploded for seven in the third, with Knight’s grand slam and Hannah O’Shurak’s solo shot a batter later for significant damage.
O’Shurak went four innings in the circle, allowed just two hits and struck out five. Tyler Venable also had three hits and drove in a pair for Black Hills, which will either play against Capital on Wednesday or wait until its district quarterfinal versus GSHL champ Mark Morris on Thursday at Recreation Park.
