Jerry Striegel, a longtime head coach at Tenino and Rochester high schools whose coaching career spanned four decades, has died. He was 70 years old.
Striegel served as the head baseball coach at Tenino High School from 1983 to 1995 and led the Beavers to the 1986 1A state championship. He grew up in Rochester, attended Centralia College and graduated from Western Washington University in 1979.
During his time in Tenino, Striegel was also the head volleyball coach for eight years and the head tennis coach for one year, as well as serving as the Tenino athletic director for a decade. He was inducted into the Tenino Athletics Hall of Fame on Jan. 23, 2026.
Before his retirement in 2018, Striegel coached Rochester’s baseball team for nine years and worked as the athletic director. He returned to the diamond in 2023 to coach at Arlington High School alongside his son Scott.
Striegel was recognized by the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association as the Small School Coach of the Year in 2008 and was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. He was inducted into the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2021.
