The South Puget South Community College women’s basketball team scored over 20 points in each of the first three quarters en route to an 81-47 NWAC West Conference win over Pierce on the road Wednesday.
Mia Martinez led the Clippers with 16 points and 11 steals while nearly getting a quadruple-double, hauling in eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists.
SPSCC led by nine points in the first quarter and outscored Pierce 21-10 before halftime, taking a 41-21 lead at the break. The Clippers then kicked their offense into high gear, scoring 26 points in the third quarter. The team shot 46.5% from the field and was 9 for 14 from the free-throw line.
Jaynee Tanner and Dakota Carson each scored 15 points. Carson also had five steals, as did Tanner.
Pierce shot 35% from the field and rarely made it to the free-throw line, going 2 for 8 from the charity stripe.
SPSCC improved to 12-6 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, while Pierce fell to 1-17 overall and remains winless in West Conference play.
