More than 20 dogs from Baja, Mexico up for adoption in Lacey this weekend

Twenty-six rescue dogs from Baja California will be at a Lacey pet store this weekend for an adoption event.

The “Mega Adoption Weekend” is coordinated by Tragic to Magic dog rescue, a California-based nonprofit that rescues and rehabilitates abandoned and stray dogs in the Baja California state of Mexico.

Tragic to Magic hosts adoption events across North America in an effort to provide each rescued dog with a forever home.

“Come meet puppies, small dogs, big dogs, and plenty of lovable Baja mixes — all hoping to find their forever families. Each adoption gives a deserving rescue dog the chance to leave a difficult past behind and begin a brand-new life,” Tragic to Magic said in a news release.

The “Mega Adoption Weekend” in Lacey runs July 24-26 at the Lacey PetSmart, 719 Sleater Kinney Rd SE, Lacey.

The dogs will be available to adopt from 1 to 7 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tragic to Magic encourages interested families to complete an adoption application ahead of time.

Approved applicants may be able to reserve a dog to meet during the event. Walk-ins are also welcome.

While Tragic to Magic aims to adopt out every dog this weekend, the nonprofit is also searching for temporary foster families in Washington state.

“Fostering keeps dogs from having to make the long journey back to Mexico if they are not adopted at the event,” Tragic to Magic said in a news release.

Even opening your home for a few days or weeks could make a life-changing difference, the nonprofit said.

“Supplies and support can be provided, and fostering is a wonderful way to help a dog decompress while we continue searching for the right family,” Tragic to Magic wrote.

The nonprofit is also looking for volunteers to help throughout the weekend with walking dogs, handling puppies, speaking with visitors, cleaning, setup, and general event support during the adoption event.
