The Rainier volleyball team handed Black Hills its first loss of the season on Thursday, snapping the Wolves’ six-game winning streak with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 victory.

“We played great as a team and we are learning with every match we play,” Rainier coach Carrie Ooms said. “We have a strong offense and utilize all of our hitters to help us be successful. We are further along this season than we were last season at this point, and we look forward to growing more throughout the season.”

Allyson Ooms ended the night with 16 digs, 12 kills, and three aces, while Lexi Beckman added 11 kills, three blocks, and an ace.

Ellie Pringle finished with 10 digs, eight kills, and an ace, Jessica Adamski logged 23 digs and an ace, and Courtney Eckroth also delivered an ace from the service line while dishing out 34 assists.

On the other side of the net, Black Hills coach Kendra Dunn said that the Wolves never found their rhythm as a team, crediting Rainier while also acknowledging that she felt her group didn’t play at its best.

“It was a tough night for us,” Dunn said. “We’ll take this one, learn from it, and use it as motivation moving forward. We have a lot of season left, and this group will continue to work, grow, and fight together.”

Dunn did credit her blockers, saying they were “relentless at the net” and that they did well getting touches and slowing the Rainier attack.

The Mountaineers (3-1) will host Tenino on Monday, while the Wolves (6-1) will have the next 11 days off before facing Shelton in their EvCo opener on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
