Mountaineers sweep Tigers for sixth straight win

The Rainier volleyball team picked up its sixth sweep in a row on Wednesday, topping Napavine 25-11, 25-10, 25-11 in a non-league meeting.

Allyson Ooms finished with 13 digs, nine kills, and two aces, while Lexi Beckman added eight kills and four blocks.

Ellie Pringle added nine digs, seven kills, and an ace, Elyse Plowman had five kills and a block, and Courtney Eckroth dished out 32 assists while also picking up seven aces and five kills.

On the other side of the net, Napavine struggled to get blocks on Rainier’s hitters, something Napavine coach Monica Dailey said was critical.

“We had touches on the blocks but couldn’t get complete coverage of the ball,” Dailey said. “When you play a high caliber team like Rainier, you need a strong defense at the net.”

Dailey did credit her defense behind the block, saying they worked hard at keeping balls in play, but the Tigers struggled to put the ball away offensively, making 22 hitting errors on the night.

“We’ve got to cut that number down significantly if we want to find success this season,” Dailey said.

Dailey was pleased with the team’s improvement at the service line, though.

Scarlett Dunivin, Emily Thuston, Ava Ondong and Lilly Grabianowski all finished perfect from the line, and as a team, the Tigers only missed two serves.

Napavine (3-6) will look to snap its two-game skid on Thursday in Adna, while Rainier ( ) will try to make it seven wins in a row the same night in Mossyrock.
