South Puget Sound Community College’s men’s basketball team continues to impress in the NWAC West Conference, pulling away from Tacoma Community College for a 79–67 victory Wednesday night, Jan. 4 in Olympia.
The Clippers (16-7, 5-3 NWAC) led 38-34 at halftime before extending the margin in the second half, outscoring the Titans 41-33 to secure the home win.
South Puget Sound shot an accurate 57.1% from the field and went 18 of 25 from the free-throw line, capitalizing on second-half opportunities as Tacoma struggled to keep pace down with the sails-full Clippers.
Nakalayah Fabello couldn’t miss and led the Clippers with 22 points, knocking down 7 of 8 shots from the floor while adding a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the foul line.
Jeremiah Lewis posted a strong all-around night with 21 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, controlling the paint on both ends.
Elijah “Jack” Mack chipped in 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting, while Jamaal Elliott added 10 points and three assists. Despite a tough shooting night, Caleb Bowden contributed nine rebounds and three assists as South Puget Sound won the rebounding battle, 34-27.
Tacoma (5-16, 0-8) was led by Jakoi Lide, who poured in 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The Titans shot a commendable 46.8% from the field but couldn’t get to the line. Tacoma managed just 1 of 3 free throws, a disparity that proved costly.
The Clippers’ defense limited Tacoma’s bench to 15 total points and forced nine turnovers, helping maintain control in the closing minutes.
