Neighbors help homeowner escape house fire in Thurston County

A homeowner and two cats safely escaped a house fire in Thurston County on Sunday morning thanks to their neighbors.

The fire was reported at approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, in the area of Endicott Road Southwest.

Nearby citizens noticed the fire and helped the resident and their pets safely evacuate the home before firefighters arrived.   

Arriving crews with the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority found a working fire with smoke coming from the eaves and flames visible through the roof.

West Thurston was aided by the Tumwater Fire Department, East Olympia Fire District and McLane Black Lake Fire Department.



Firefighters initiated a primary search to ensure no one remained inside and began an offensive fire attack.

The fire was brought under control quickly, and crews then conducted overhaul operations to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced resident.
