The Northwest Christian volleyball team shook off some rust in the first set and defeated Quilcene in four sets up north Thursday night.
Northwest Christian fell in the opening frame 25-21, but the Wolverines earned a backdoor sweep by winning the final three sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.
Junior Addy Hentges did a little bit of everything with 11 kills, seven aces, three digs and an assist. Junior Ashlynn Hutchings also stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, 12 digs and four aces. Senior Rileigh Frost also shined with nine kills, four aces and four digs, while sophomore Tenlee Nonn made a difference at the net with four kills and three blocks.
“Our greatest success happened when we started placing the ball better and driving it down,” Northwest Christian co-head coach Sarah Barnard said. “Rileigh, Addy and Ashlynn all had some great swings, and Tenlee took over on blocking. We’re really proud of how they came back from the first set.”
Freshman setter Jess Collins had perhaps her best day of her prep career with 27 assists, four kills, two aces and two digs.
“Jess did a fantastic job setting and took the opportunity to attack, as well,” Barnard said.
Northwest Christian (6-2, 2-0 Sea-Tac League) has a quick turnaround as it will host Providence Classical Christian Friday night.
