The Mountaineers won the second and fourth quarters by one point, but were minus-15 in the first and third quarters , which proved to be the difference in a 59-44 non-league loss to the Eagles on Monday night.
It’s the third straight setback for Rainier (8-9), which dipped below .500 with three regular season games to go. It trailed by six after the first eight minutes and was down 14 after three, scoring only eight points in the third.
Peyton Sheaffer led the Mountaineers with 13 points and Jordan Pringle registered 10. They return to league action on Wednesday against MWP at home.
“We battled against a physical, experienced team, but just had a difficult time manufacturing points in the second half,” Rainier head coach Ben Sheaffer said. “This was a great non-league test that we will learn from.”
