The Olympia City Council on Tuesday celebrated four of its members who recently began new terms.

Clark Gilman secured reelection to Position 4, beating challenger Wendy Carlson on the ballot. He was first appointed to the position in 2016 and was elected to his first four-year term the next year. This marks his fourth term.

Kelly Green ran unopposed for Position 5 after being appointed to fill the vacant seat in January 2025, and secured her seat for a first full term.

Robert Vanderpool won the election for Position 6 over Justin Stang after being appointed to fill the vacant seat in January 2024.

Paul Berendt was elected to Position 7 over Caleb Gieger to secure his first term on the Olympia City Council. The seat was previously held by Jim Cooper, who did not seek reelection.

The four councilmembers took their oaths of office, administered by Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall, during a special ceremony on Nov. 25.

They were ceremonially sworn in again at the start of the Olympia City Council’s regular meeting on Jan. 6.
