Graham-Kapowsin pitcher Brooklyn Pettit was too much for the Olympia softball team to handle as the Eagles prevailed 10-4 in Graham Monday afternoon.
Pettit registered a staggering 17 punchouts against the Bears over seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks.
Against Olympia starter Sydnee Chandler-Trent, Graham-Kapowsin put up three runs in the first inning and four in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Lehua Siaki in the second. Pettit’s first eight putouts were via strikeout, and after GK added a run in the third, Olympia’s first hit against Pettit came in the fourth, and the hits suddenly came in bunches.
Sam Graham led off the frame with a walk, and Abby Crawford singled. Sydney Potvin continued her strong start to the season with an RBI double to score Graham, and Katelyn Pearson lined a two-run triple to right field. Nia Huckaby added a sacrifice groundout, and by the end of the fourth, Graham-Kapowsin’s 8-0 lead was suddenly cut in half.
But Pettit bounced back and overwhelmed the Bears after the fourth, striking out the side in the fifth. She only allowed two base runners across the final three innings. Graham-Kapowsin’s 10th run came on its second home run of the game, this time from the bat of Manamea Laban in the sixth.
Izzy Falling pitched four innings of relief for Chandler-Trent and allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, striking out three.
Olympia (1-4, 1-2 South Puget Sound League) will look to get back on track at home against a potent Bonney Lake team Wednesday.
