The Olympia baseball team is no longer undefeated, dropping its first game Tuesday in a 5-2 home loss to Yelm.
In the second game of a three-game series between the two South Puget Sound League foes, the Tornados came out of the gates hot on offense. Parker Myers led off the game by doubling on the third pitch, and Lincoln Ramirez drove him in with a single two at-bats later.
Max Gonzalez singled to lead off the second inning and came around to score after a passed ball and an error. Yelm extended its lead on another infield error by Olympia to take a 3-0 lead through two frames.
The Bears earned some movement on the bases in the bottom of the third, as Noah Miller led off with a walk and scored on a groundout by Aiden Apfel. Travis Kunkel singled and scored on an error to cut the lead to 3-2.
Myers drilled his second double of the day, this time in the fourth to score Trenton Sawyers from first base. Yelm delivered the dagger in the sixth as Wyatt Kober singled to score Jaxson Buxton. Jonah Smith pitched five innings, allowing just two runs on two hits, three walks and six strikeouts. The Tornados gave up three total hits to the Bears.
For Olympia, Peyton Crass pitched five innings and gave up four runs on six hits, striking out two batters. Milo Tolbert punched out four and allowed one unearned run on three hits in two frames of relief.
Olympia (8-1, 4-1 South Puget Sound League) and Yelm (3-6, 2-3 South Puget Sound League) will meet for a rubber match at Olympia High School Wednesday afternoon.
