The Olympia girls swim and dive team picked up another win, defeating Puyallup 131-54 and South Kitsap 123-63 in a South Puget Sound League triangular meet at Timberline High School Thursday, Oct. 1.

The Bears won eight of the 12 events. Sophomore Olivia Smith was the headliner, winning the 100-yard butterfly at a new personal-record time of 1 minute, 5.66 seconds. She defeated teammate Preita Sanders, who took second place at 1:09.58.

Sanders clinched the 200-yard freestyle crown at 2:05.58, about nine seconds faster than runner-up Nastasia Moniodis from Olympia.

Olympia took all three relay titles, as the Bears’ 200-yard medley relay team triumphed in 2:00.49, the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet won at 1:47.25, and the 400-yard freestyle relayers prevailed at 4:02.94.

Freshman Priya Sanders notched a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming in 26.90 seconds. Sophomore Aila Swanson came out on top in a tightly contested 100-yard freestyle race, winning in 1:00.66.

Junior Paulina Mueller was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:17.53.

“There were a lot of good swims, not just by the Bears but also by Puyallup and South Kitsap,” Olympia head coach Henry Valz said. “All three schools have state-level swimmers, so it was great to have some very fast swimmers in multiple events providing a challenge for our top-level swimmers.”

Olympia’s next meet is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Emerald Ridge.
