For the third time in as many weeks, the Olympia football team was led by a big night from star running back Ibrahima Diallo in a victorious effort.

Diallo rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries as the Bears defeated Bellarmine 22-3 at home Thursday night. He’s found the end zone seven times through three games while rushing for a total of 597 yards this season.

Aden Carr was the first Bear to score a touchdown against Bellarmine with a 12-yard scamper in the first quarter, putting Olympia on top 8-0 after a two-point conversion. Diallo broke off a 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to help the Bears take a 15-3 halftime lead.

Quarterback Braden Barrett scurried into the end zone for a 2-yard score in the fourth quarter to help seal the game.

“Bellarmine was a talented team. We were tested all night, and our defense answered the call with some big plays and some timely turnovers,” Olympia head coach Cary Nagel said. “Offensively, our guys played hard and did enough to put some points on the board, but there is plenty to improve on in practice this next week before we go and play Yelm.”

David Ukwu recovered a fumble and led the defense with seven total tackles and two tackles for loss, while Kameron Kronmeyer and Ethan Phitsamay each intercepted a pass.

As Nagel said, Olympia (3-0) will open the South Puget Sound League season with a road contest at Yelm (0-3) Friday, Sept. 25.
